Welcome to The Arts Society Shrewsbury website

The Arts Society Shrewsbury, formed in 1982, is a member society of the Arts Society, one of some 384 member societies in the UK and mainland Europe, and even in New Zealand and Australia.  We are also part of The Arts Society West Midlands Area.

Our members, currently around 265 in number, come from all over Shropshire and meet in the afternoon on the third Wednesday of each month, except July and August, at the Lord Hill Hotel (see 'Lectures' in menu above) ten times a year.  In addition we hold at least one Day of Special Interest per year and offer members a varied programme of visits to galleries, museums and historic buildings within a day’s travelling of Shrewsbury and, more recently, overseas.

We are actively engaged in supporting local Young Arts projects and our Church Recording group has nearly completed its third survey.  Our Heritage Volunteers continue to work with the staff at Shrewsbury Archives and  we have been helping to catalogue the Elton Collection at the Ironbridge Gorge Museum.

Our aims are to offer you an opportunity to enrich your knowledge and interest in all aspects of the arts and to meet people of like minds in a relaxed and sociable atmosphere, and to foster active participation in the preservation of our cultural heritage.

We welcome new members; if you would like to join The Arts Society Shrewsbury please contact us or just come along to one of our meetings.  We look forward to seeing you.

Note for Visiting Lecturers

The Arts Society Shrewsbury has a full range of digital-presentation equipment, including projector (Epson EB-2255U) with HDMI and VGA connections, Kensington remote control (with laser pointer) and Audio head or lapel mic. We aim to have everything set up and ready to go on your arrival. We prefer you to bring your own laptop but do have a netbook PC (VGA and USB only with Power Point 2007) for use with a USB memory stick if necessary.
