About our President - Howard Franklin

Howard Franklin was educated at Shrewsbury School of Art in the 1960s studying for a National Diploma in Design, and at a later date he qualified with a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Fine Art through distant learning. Howard trained in Floristry at Constance Spry in London and later with Moyses Stevens the Court Florists.  His first Court appointment was at Harewood House with HRH The Princess Mary, Princess Royal. 
Howard ran a very successful Flower Decorating Company for thirty-two years based in Shropshire, and in 1972 was the British Designer at the World Flower Cup, in Holland, and became World Champion Florist in Bridal Design.  The following year he was the lead designer of  the wedding flowers for HRH The Princess Anne, at Westminster Abbey. Most of his Court work was for HM Queen Elizabeth The Queen Mother at Clarence House.
For four and a half years he appeared on BBC Television as a Presenter of  the popular daytime programme 'Pebble Mill at One'. In 1992 he was the British Judge at the World Flower Cup in Sweden, and is now the most senior judge of the United Kingdom Guild of Judges. Howard holds a Gold Grenfel Medal from the Royal Horticultural Society, and is a national judge for the RHS, judging at major flower shows in Britain and abroad. In 2010 he was invited to be President of Shropshire Horticultural Society and Shrewsbury Flower Show. Howard Franklin is an international lecturer, demonstrator, and judge  of professional floristry and decorative floral design, and has been seven times around the world in those capacities.

Howard  was on the founding committtee of the Church Stretton Arts Festival and is their Life Vice President. He is a Life Patron of The Royal School of Needlework, and is a Guild Member of the Worshipful Company of Drapers, and is the lead Judge for their annual Textile Design Awards.  A former committee member he was appointed President of The Arts Society Shrewsbury in October 2010.
